Are You Living a Balanced Lifestyle?

alexis balance body health Aug 06, 2018

Alexis Parnell here to help you create a more balanced lifestyle so that you can shine, not just in one area of your life, but in ALL areas of your life!

But first, why am I talking about living a more balanced lifestyle?

We spend a lot of time compartmentalizing the various areas of our lives: relationships, career, money, exercise, health…but we all know that if one area is out of whack, our WHOLE life is affected.

Imagine making tons of money AND being in a loving, happy marriage BUT you have no time to exercise. Pretty soon you will appreciate your flow of money and love less simply because your body is not getting the exercise it needs to feel alive and energized.

That’s why it’s so important to think of your life as one holistic pie and to make the decision to put your energy into making every piece of that pie as yummy as possible!

So what would creating a more balanced lifestyle look like?

Great question! Creating a more balanced lifestyle would mean...

3 Minute Energy-Boosting Body Stretch

Alexis Parnell here to share with you my favorite 3-minute body stretch that you can do as soon as you wake up in the morning!

But first, why am I talking about a body stretch first thing in the morning?

We all know that waking up on the wrong side of the bed and getting a rushed start to the day where you’re racing out the house with un-brushed teeth AND glugging down your coffee in the car is a bad sign.

Everyone wants to start their day on a good note, which means waking up in a good mood, calm and centered and energized for the day, which isn’t always the case, right?

So why not give your body that stretch it deserves first thing in the morning instead of waiting ALL day long to go and do the exact same stretch at the gym after work?

If you are tired of waking up groggy and achy, then click the link below now to get on our email list to learn about our membership group and more fast and easy ways to stretch your body back to health first thing in the morning.

Ditch the Negativity: Harness the power of your brain’s ‘filter’ for more happiness in your life

“You are where your attention is” ~ Jim Fortin

So, where is YOUR attention? As simple as this sounds, you have to get your brain on board to help you shift your focus to whatever BEST serves you.

How?

Ok…let’s get a little ‘geeky’ right now… inside the brain, there is something called the 'Reticular Activating System' (the RAS). At any one moment, there are over 2 million pieces of data that your brain is trying to sift through. Since you can't possibly be aware of all this information, the RAS alerts you to whatever it believes you want to know (based on the thoughts you’re constantly telling yourself). This is why the saying "what we focus on, grows" is true. If you’re stuck in a cycle of loneliness, struggle, sadness…your life isn’t missing 'good' things. In fact, there are plenty of great things in your life RIGHT NOW. They are THERE. But, you may be completely unaware because you’ve never noticed...

6 Factors to Consider When Choosing a Job – (Hint: it’s not all about the money!)

Have you or someone you know ever had an unpleasant job – the kind of job where it is very hard to get out of bed in the morning? I once had a job where I literally sat in my car dreading the day and putting off going into the building until the last possible minute. When I think back to that job, I realize that I did not evaluate my choice of jobs very carefully or realistically. Here are some factors – in addition to salary – that you should always consider.

Work Environment

You spend at least a third of the hours of every weekday at work – often more time than you spend with friends or family on any given day – so it makes sense to want to like where you are. Consider the company culture: is it formal and focused on rules or is it more laid back and open. Assess your personality and identify what is important to your job satisfaction to determine where you will best fit.

Quality of Life

Some people are willing to trade their free time,...

Optimism: The Fuel for Peak Performance & Resilience

What do you picture when you hear someone talk about optimism? Something like this?

This is by far my favorite cup analogy! All joking aside, optimism, or rather the benefits of an optimistic outlook are far underrated. You may feel somewhat unsure about the notion of optimism given your military background. I’ll admit I was at first. As a former Military Intelligence Officer, we were taught to think in terms of the most likely course of action and the most dangerous course of action – and have a contingency plan. That approach seems in stark contrast with an optimistic outlook. Although there was the “plan for the worst, hope for the best” adage.

While it served us well in the military, living primarily through this lens out of uniform can have detrimental effects on our health, wellbeing, relationships, performance and resilience.

Our brains are hardwired to notice, remember and weigh negative events more heavily than positive events. Have you...

Some Out-of-the-Box Ways to Think About Nourishing Your Body, Mind and Spirit

Alexis Parnell here to share some out-of-the-box ways to think about nourishing your body, mind and spirit.…

But wait, why am I even using the word “nourishment” if I’m not talking about food?

That’s a great question!

The reason I am using the word nourishment outside of its regular foodie context is because we often find ourselves so over-focused on food that we forget about all the other simple and wonderful ways to nourish ourselves.

What does it mean to nourish myself without food?

We forget that taking a walk in a forest with our dog is calming and rejuvenating.

That lying on your bed listening to your favorite song while feeling the breeze kissing your face is soothing and relaxing.

That feeling the grass tickle your feet as you watch the clouds drift by is as good as meditation!

We actually “eat” all day with our senses….we “consume” our environment through touch, feel, taste, sound and sight.

If you are tired of...

The Power of Your Emotions

dawn emotions mind Jun 04, 2018

Emotions are neither good nor bad.

They’re HELPFUL or HURTFUL.  They either HELP you live your best life and serve at your highest power or they DON’T.

Some emotions can be dangerous for your growth and progress if you stay in them for too long but feeling all emotions – honoring them, accepting them, and releasing them is a powerful part of healing and optimizing your growth as a human being.

Right now, how do you FEEL?

Most people can answer that question pretty easily.  It’s usually pretty easy to know when you’re feeling stressed, frustrated, joyful, or excited. The energy in your body feels a certain way and even though it can be hard to pinpoint the exact emotion you’re feeling sometimes, you usually know if the emotions are helpful or hurtful.

Your life is basically driven by your emotions – how you FEEL dictates what you DO.  If you feel good, you show up in the world in a different way than if you’re stuck...

Veteran Underemployment: Causes & Cures

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for all veterans fell to 3.7% in 2017. Having this low unemployment rate for veterans is great. However, this statistic doesn’t take into account the level of veteran underemployment.

According to a 2017 study nearly 31.8% of veterans were underemployed; that rate was 15.6% higher than their non-veteran counterparts. What does this mean for you, as a veteran in your post-military career?

Underemployment refers to someone that has a job that is below their level of skills, education, qualification and/or salary requirements. An underemployed veteran may find themselves facing one, many or all of these issues.

However, you may simply feel unfulfilled with your current role which can also cause you to feel underemployed. In a Washington Post survey, 66% of veterans felt more purpose and meaning in the military than in their current career and 67% felt frustrated that they weren’t using 3 or more of their...
